Casey Wollenzier started teaching in 1995 upon her graduation from Miami of Ohio. Thirty years later she has worked with a variety of students of various ages. Her career began teaching 3rd and 4th grade students for nine years in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. Then, she relocated to Michigan and took a position in Hartford Public Schools where she taught at a migrant farming setting in a multi-age 4th/5th grade classroom. From there she pursued a position with West Ottawa Public Schools teaching third grade. After teaching third grade for a couple of years she was asked to teach 8th grade Pre-Algebra. After 13
years in grades 6th-8th teaching middle school math she returned to her true love which was working with elementary aged students. Now she is in her third year teaching an accelerated elementary ELA program at Lakewood Elementary.
Over the years she has been interested in grant writing and bringing authentic learning experiences to students. She has participated in many of the PBL programs offered over the years with the Future PREP’d program at the OAISD. She has facilitated programs at the high school, middle school and elementary levels encouraging students to solve real world problems. She enjoys challenging students to think outside the box. Participating in the Michigan Design Challenge and being able to connect with other educators implementing project based learning in their classrooms throughout the state has been a
highlight in her career over the last two years.
Casey loves visiting Alabama and following all University of Alabama sports! Husband – Brad, daughter – Madison (a Bama grad) and Casey live for college football and can be found cheering on the Crimson Tide any fall weekend when they are playing. The family has a game day home in Tuscaloosa that they enjoy visiting when there is time available away from the classroom. Playing pickleball, gardening, fishing with her dad and spending time with friends and family are her favorite pastimes.
