The Michigan Design Council premiered the State of Design as part of the Detroit Month of Design celebration in September of 2019. The College for Creative Studies partnered as a sponsor on the film and hosted the event at the Taubman Center General Motors auditorium.

VIP guests and donors were treated to a pre-screening red carpet event with an opportunity to win special auction items, such as a fly along experience at Yankee Air Museum on a restored B-25D bomber with Matt Korich, an original 1986 wine bottle stopper from Vincenzo Iavicoli's Titanic collection, and a new original wood sculpture, 'the Signature of Detroit' from Nate Facciolla.

After the VIP event, the premiere screening was open to the public and attended by design and education leaders throughout Michigan, along with many students from CCS. One of the main goals of the film is to inspire students with the rewarding career path design offers, and why Michigan is an ideal place to hone their craft and make an impact on their community. The response was incredible and many educators are planning to share the film with their middle school and high school students.
